James A. Jensen, aka “Dinosaur Jim”
“Man of the Desert”
It wasn’t an accident, he didn’t just fall into the profession, and he didn’t just happen to become famous. James A. Jensen, a high-school dropout with an astonishing range of talents, interests, and experiences, became the most publicized paleontologist of the 20th Century. He had a greater impact on paleontology than most credentialed paleontologist. The free-standing mount that he pioneered in 1958, appears in museums around the world today.
This website is like the scene in “Wizard of Oz” where Dorothy pulls the curtain and finds a nice old man, speaking into a microphone, pushing buttons, and pulling handles to create loud sounds, bursts of smoke, and monstrous flashes of light. Except that when we pull the curtain here, we discover a man of enormous substance. Enjoy your visit.
